Chubby Baby
After a long exhausting weekend of contractions for Andrea, we had a routine doctor's visit on Monday. After venting her frustration to the doctor about the contractions without real labor, it was revealed that perhaps the reason she is contracting is because the baby is measuring big, and I mean big... causing a lot of strain on her body. The doctor used some large word like macrosomia, basically meaning the baby is measuring big for how far along Andrea is. At 35.2 weeks pregnant the baby was measuring in at the size of a baby at 38 weeks gestation. That's right everyone the baby is currently weighing in at a whopping 6lbs 120z. The doctor said that at this point if we reach our due date we we are on schedule to deliver a 9 1/2 to 10lb baby. Andrea was obviously not excited about the prospect of delivering a 10lb baby, and thankfully the doctor reassured her that she wouldn't have to. At this point if the baby's weight continues as expected and Andrea hasn't delivered by her visit on the 17th, we will schedule induction for some point that week, making her btw 38 and 39wks, with the baby weighing closer to 8lbs 12 oz to low 9lbs. Still big but... alot more reasonable. So any new thoughts on the sex of the baby for those of you reading this? Andrea still says girl and Chris adamantly thinks boy... we shall see, hopefully for Andrea sooner than later. Sooner she informs me equals smaller baby....
35 Weeks, Trial Run
Anticipating another 3-5 weeks until baby Mullin is welcomed to the world, we were surprised by ringing in the 35 week marker with a trip to the hospital. Which unfortunately for Andrea meant 22 hours of contractions 3 minutes apart and approximately 5 hours in the hospital without a baby to take home, you could call it our trial run. Andrea was very thankful for the sleeping pill that gave her 5 hours of sleep once we came home from the hospital. After a total of 32 hours of contractions which gradually spaced out..... Andrea is finally able to relax as well as one can at 35weeks pregnant. Overall, it gave us the much needed push to have our bags packed and thanks to a wonderful mother/mother in-law, clothes washed and a room ready for the baby. We are now even more excited to meet this little baby, even if Andrea is a bit leary about how much stronger the contractions are going to have to be. But in the end, with a baby in her arms she knows, it will all have been worth it.
